In British Swimming you will find information about the world of high performance sport, including the disciplines of Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Para-Swimming.

The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

The IoS delivers the ASA’s courses and is a member organisation. Whether you are a teacher, coach, employer or club you will find everything you need to know about qualifications or educating your workforce.

Ciara Gibson-Byrne

Born in Barcelona to British parents, Ciara Gibson-Byrne has been a mainstay of the British team since making her debut as a 17-year old in 2010.

She played in the World League for the Brits in 2010, travelled to the World University Games in 2011 and helped the British women qualify for the 2012 European Championships for the first time in 15 years.

It was at her debut Europeans where Gibson-Byrne underlined her class, scoring in every game to finish joint top British scorer on seven.

She has gone from strength to strength since then, bagging five goals as one of the stars of GB’s London 2012 Olympic team then scoring nine goals from four games at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona.

Studies/Work: Did a Spanish Baccalaureate and now doing a Diploma in Sport.
