Rachel Drabble

Rachel is one of the youngest players on the British team and is a relative new comer to the senior ranks. Rachel’s first Senior international meet was against Hungary in 2007 and one of her greatest sporting achievements to date has been the European Junior Championships 2008, where she captained the team to an impressive seventh place. She was also part of the gold medal winning British team at the 2009 LEN European B Nations Trophy held in Manchester.

In the Pool

Greatest Achievement to date: European Junior Championships 2008, I was the team captain, which is a great honour and we improved on two places (9th in 2007 and 7th in 2008). We lost to Spain by two goals! The team played awesome.

Aspiration: To play at an Olympic level and have the oposition fear me!

Training Regime: We have two pool sessions per day (monday to friday) and four gym sessions during the week.

Who has been greatest influence on you: My family and friends

Water Polo Short term Goals: To stay concentrated for longer periods of time even when I'm getting tired.

Water Polo Long Term Goals: To improve the speed of correct decision making.

When did you begin playing water polo: When I was 10 years old at Doncaster Water Polo Club

Out of the Pool

Family Members: Mum, Jane; Step-dad, John; Sister, Sarah; Grandparents, Eddie and Pat; Aunt, Anna; Uncle, Nigel. They're my number one fans! My mum and step dad follow me wherever they can.

Studies: University of Salford - Journalism and Broadcasting 1st year.

Other sports: Natball and swimming

Tip for the top: It's easier when someone else believes in you but even stronger to believe in yourself!

Life after water polo: I'm planning to finish my degree then go on to do a Master's or begin my career.
