This role is advertised as full time but we will consider a part-time role with reduced responsibilities for the correct candidate. Ideally, the start date will be August 2024 though we will be flexible for the right candidate.

CoStA is a successful and high-performing Swimming Club with squads ranging from learn to swim through to Performance and Masters. We consistently produce swimmers who compete at County, Regional and National levels.

The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and have excellent communication skills and a sound understanding of developing swimmers from learn to swim through all competitive stages including National swimmers.

Main duties will include:

  • Plan and deliver training sessions to meet squad goals set by the Head Coach
  • Monitor individual squad member’s progress and objectives
  • Take the register at every session
  • Attend all appropriate galas and ensure swimmer feedback is optimised to guide improvement and ensure swimmers meet their personal goals. Use the feedback given to guide the planning of future coaching.
  • Monitor swimmers’ progress and coordinate swimmer transition within the squad structure (in conjunction with the Head Coach); communicate with parents and the committee on performance pathways and longer-term squad transition plans.
  • Develop the squad in line with the overall program defined by the Head Coach
  • Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) and gain further qualifications in line with SwimMark requirements
  • Communicate with parents, respond in a timely manner to e-mail and facilitate meetings as required
  • Follow all Safeguarding requirements in line with the Club’s policies and Swim England Wavepower Child Safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Follow Health and Safety procedures and the Swim England Child Protection Policy at all times

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • A dynamic coach able to lead by example and motivate, develop, encourage and mentor young age group swimmers
  • Work well as a member of a team
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate or ASA Level 2 Coaching Award
  • Hold an RLSS National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) (this can be obtained once in post)
  • Experience in controlling groups of children

Contract Location: Loughborough and swimming pools within the local area

Purpose

The Junior Head Coach will play a critical role in the leadership of Loughborough Town Swimming Club, working alongside the Senior Head Coach and the Committee, to achieve our collective aspiration to make the Club one of the best in the county and region for the diverse range of swimmers we serve.

Leading our junior section, you will be responsible for all aspects of coach development planning and delivery, supported by a team of paid and volunteer coaches as well as Young Volunteers. You will be responsible for team selection and attendance at junior galas as well as perform a range of administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the junior section of the Club. A key function of the role will be to ensure close collaborative and supportive working with the Senior Head Coach, ensuring a ‘one club’ philosophy and approach.

Key Tasks:

  • Jointly oversee, alongside the Senior Head Coach, the development and delivery of the swimming development pathway at the Club.
  • Provide a clear and fair entry pathway into the club from Learn to Swim programs that are delivered locally and ensure a proactive approach to all trial swimmers wishing to join the Club.
  • Lead the overall delivery of the Junior Section of the Club, including all junior swimmers and squads, coach scheduling, coach continuing professional development (CPD), session planning, swimmer performance monitoring and development planning, team selection for galas, etc
  • Perform the Junior Head Coaching role, working with a range of sessional paid and volunteer coaches of all levels and experience to support the overall junior section of the Club.
  • Select a programme of competitions and galas for our junior swimmers, including attending each of them; open galas, league galas, internal galas, county/regional/national championships and others as necessary.
  • Jointly lead, alongside the Senior Head Coach, and support a regular coaching meeting of all paid and volunteer coaches.
  • Mentor the coaching team, both paid and volunteers as well as Young Volunteers, that support the junior section of the Club.
  • Work closely alongside the Senior Head Coach to oversee squad structures and management, swimmer movement and specifically, the transition arrangements when junior swimmers progress to the senior section of the Club.
  • Work closely alongside the Senior Head Coach and Executive Committee to continue to ensure the club ethos is adhered to and to continue to embed the team spirit and family-friendly culture at Loughborough Town Swimming Club.
  • Work closely alongside the Senior Head Coach and Executive Committee, further developing and maintaining the balance between supporting the development and potential of our many talented young swimmers and supporting our recreational swimmers to enjoy and foster a lifelong love of our sport within a competitive swimming environment.
  • Work closely alongside the Senior Head Coach and Executive Committee to further grow and develop Loughborough Town Swimming Club in all aspects of its contribution to the local and regional swimming and broader sporting community.
  • Active and supportive engagement with the Club Committee in all aspects of the role.
  • Manage administration duties, with support from volunteer committee members, for the junior section of the Club through Swim Club Manager; including communicating with swimmers and parents, selecting swimmers for competitions and all other necessary administration duties. Along with complying with all General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the Club’s privacy policy
  • Ensure compliance with all Club policies and procedures as well as Swim England policies and procedures (i.e. Wavepower) and Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Represent the Club as required, contributing to the wider county and regional swimming family alongside other clubs and associations.

Relationships

Our new Junior Head Coach will report to a member of the Executive Committee.  The successful candidate will be an integral and valued member of the Loughborough Town Swimming Club family and is likely to thrive through developing and maintaining close working relationships with the coaching and volunteer teams, specifically with the Senior Head Coach where a link between the juniors and senior squads is expected to be high quality, progressive and supportive of swimmer needs when making such an important transition. Other close relationships will be expected between the candidate and the committee and with the range of junior swimmers and parents where a friendly, welcoming and progressive culture is enabled where all swimmers can achieve their goals and aspirations in the development of their competitive swimming journey.

About LTSC

LTSC is a SwimMark-accredited competitive swimming club that has been an important part of the local sporting community for many years. The Club has seen significant membership growth in recent years and now has more than 200 swimmers from Juniors through to Masters, with swimmers competing at County, Regional and National Championships as well as being an active club in local leagues and open meets. Responsibilities:

  •  Serve as the Head Swim Coach for the team’s competitive swim program: 
    • Supervise and maintain practice and meet environment,
    • fostering a positive, safe, inclusive, challenging and supportive team environment that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork and the personal growth and development of both athletes and assistant coaches. 
  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs across all team/group levels tailored to the needs and abilities of each practice group, focusing on skill development, stroke progression, tactical knowledge, and physical fitness. 
  • Assess and assign swimmers to training groups and appropriate goal setting.
  • Propose the competition calendar for the short course, long course, and championship seasons.
  • Ensure all swim meets have adequate coaching coverage for all participating swimmers.
  • Collaborate with team administrator on team practice schedules and meet schedules, including team and coach travel, meet entry assignments, and other meet-related administrative duties.

In addition to coaching experience, the Head Coach position is responsible for the day-to-day operations, hands-on guidance, and involvement in all aspects of the swim program, including but not limited to:

  • Maintain regular and efficient communication with swimmers and parents
  • Management, training, mentoring, scheduling and professional development of the assistant coach staff.
  • Work collaboratively with coaching staff to include position descriptions, search processes, acquisition, orientation and hiring/firing practices.
  • Work collaboratively with resources to secure pool time and set practice times for groups in the allotted time available, resolving pool limitations creatively to accommodate training.
  • Work collaboratively with the parent volunteers providing monthly progress reports regarding athlete performance, financial, communication, and staffing statuses.

    • Assist in the preparation of an annual operating budget with the Board Treasurer.

Required Qualifications:

  • Swim England Assistant Swimming Coach or Swimming Coach Certificate (ASA Level 1 or Level 2 Coaching Award) or equivalent
  • Water Safety: RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
  • Five or more years of coaching experience demonstrating a record of successful leadership with both developmental and elite swimmers in technique, race strategy, stroke mechanics, age-appropriate dryland training techniques and training methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of the overall balance of training for distance and sprint, and taper techniques. 
  • Strong organisational ability to manage multiple tasks and events simultaneously.
  • Proficient in the use of coaching software (e.g. XPS), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint – or equivalent) and email.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively interact with athletes, parents and staff.

Work Hours: Head Coach is a full-time exempt position with irregular hours including evenings and weekends. The position will also require working weekend meets with participation in meets. 


Breidablik Swim Club:
The Breidablik Swim Club has guided, trained and motivated swimmers at all levels of recreational training and competitive swimming since 1968. The Breidablik swim
club is a member of The Icelandic Swimming Association (SSÍ) that operates within The National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland (ÍSÍ).

The facilities include both 25m and 50m pools at two locations in the town of Kopavogur (in the Capital Region). The swimming pools are part of the infrastructure of geothermal pools that have evolved within the unique swim-loving culture in Iceland. While we have a highly successful competitive swim team, we also foster the ideology that every person has the potential to pursue a swimming lifestyle.


The Breidablik swim team has had the fortune to celebrate increased success at a competitive level in recent years. For instance, the team won its first National
Trophy (bikarkeppni) in 2019. Since 2016 the team members have set 11 individual and 5 relay Junior National Icelandic records. During the current long course
(50m) season the Breidablik team has won 6 Icelandic Champions (4 individual and 2 relay). Further, during the Icelandic Championship, we set Icelandic Junior Records
in all (3 out of 3) of our Women relay events (4x100m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley).


The team has had several participants who have won places at the national team level and its future youth programs. During the current long course season Breidablik team
members will be representing Iceland at the following international events:

  • 3 Swimmers going to the Adam Peaty Race in London in May
  • 4 Swimmers going to Taastrup in Denmark in May
  • 3 Swimmers going to the Nordic Age Group Championships in June
  • 1 Swimmer going to the European Junior Championships in July

Spencer Swim Team is a large, successful masters-only swimming club, established 40 years ago. Our Members are of mixed ability and ages, including World, European and British record holders. We offer seven coached training sessions weekly and are affiliated to the London Region Amateur Swimming Association.

We are looking to expand and strengthen our coaching team and are in need of coaches. Ideally, applicants will hold a Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 2 Coaching Award but we are happy to consider applications from those who hold a Swim England Assistant Swimming Coach Certificate/ ASA Level 1 Coaching Award plus a Level 2 Teaching qualification. 

You will be coaching predominantly across our pools in Forest Hill, Dulwich and Tooting/Balham, with a minimum of 1 session and likely 2 sessions per week. You will also be a reserve coach for sessions that other coaches might not be able to attend.

In addition, we are also looking for individuals who can support us as reserve coaches. This might be for those coaching elsewhere with occasional availability and includes our venues in Clapham and Putney.

You will become a key member of the Club’s management team. We’re looking for leadership, enthusiasm, inspiration, commitment, motivation and somebody who can work with our coaching team, friendly committee, swimmers and volunteers.   • Alongside our Head Coach, be a leader to our coaching team of 10, to oversee the training and development of our teaching, Junior Development, and Competitive squads.

 Remuneration, hours and location of work:

  • WSC offers an attractive level of remuneration dependent on experience and qualifications.

The role of Head Coach role is to inspire, motivate and support swimmers at all levels. Essential criteria

  • Swim England Senior Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 3 Coaching Swimming Award or Swimming Coach Certificate/Level 2 Award and evidence of a plan to achieve the Senior Swimming Coach Certificate
  • Proven track record of developing swimmers to county, regional and national levels
  • Hold an up-to-date Swim England Safeguarding qualification
  • Hold or be prepared to gain a current land-based training qualification appropriate to swimming
  • Qualified first aider or prepared to undertake a relevant first aid course
  • A full driving licence or ability to reach any required locations
  • In-depth knowledge of elite coaching to a range of swimming capabilities including para swimming and open water.
  • Develop Annual Training Plans for the Competitive squads within LTAD and OADF in consultation with the Lead Coaches
  • The ability to communicate effectively with swimmers, committee and parents in all matters relating to the development of individual swimmers, squads and the club.
  • Have a good working understanding of Swim England’s Wavepower.
  • Permit an Enhanced DBS with barring check and provide evidence of the right to work in the UK
  • Ability to forge relationships with neighbouring clubs, stakeholders and facility providers.

The club has a growing membership at the junior end and a large and vibrant Masters section.  We have a large team of teachers and coaches, a forward-thinking and proactive committee and an enthusiastic team of volunteers.

The successful candidate will be energetic, enthusiastic and committed, with the ability to motivate and inspire swimmers to reach their full potential.  The Head Coach will provide leadership and be involved across the club, allowing our swimmers to progress to the best of their abilities.

 Experience in swim teaching as well as coaching would be desirable.

Club management

Typically, 312 hours per annum training across all squads (with the potential for more hours as the role progresses), working in conjunction with squad coaches, plus attendance at competitions, coaching team management and administrative hours to support the role which will vary from week to week.  Typically, the administrative work will amount to 288 hours per annum. 

 Responsibilities:

  • Oversee delivery of the swimming development pathway.
  • Organise regular team meetings with the coaching staff.
  • Mentor coaching staff and coaching assistants.
  • Work with the coaching staff to oversee squad management, session plans, swimmer movement, team selection for galas, etc.
  • Coach/teacher management – scheduling, mentoring, CPD.
  • Attend competitions – galas, internal club time trials, open meets, county/regional/national championships.
  • Liaise with the coaching team to cover absences when necessary.

 

Leadership:

  • Active engagement with the committee in setting the club’s direction.
  • Effective communication within the club.

Other responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with Swim England policies, including Wavepower.
  • Represent the club as necessary to form and continue good relations with the county, region and other local clubs.
  • The Head Coach will be supported by the committee and volunteer parents in all these areas.  They will not be expected to get involved with finances or management of officials.

 

Remuneration:

  • £18.50 per hour paid monthly on production of an invoice.
  • The Head Coach will be engaged under a contract for the provision of services and will not be an employee of the club.

This is a fantastic opportunity for coaches looking to grow their current role. The role is part-time, up to 12 hours per week. We train at pools throughout Greenwich as well as The London Aquatic Centre.   

The ideal candidate will preferably hold the following: 

  • A Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 2 Coaching Award as a minimum (for the right candidate there may be opportunities to fund further qualifications)
  • Swim England Land training qualification would be advantageous but not essential
