Wycombe District Swimming Club (WDSC) is a leading club in the South East of England. We train in the new long course facility at Wycombe Leisure Centre. As part of our continuing development we are seeking an assistant performance coach to join our successful coaching team. You will coach our aspiring swimmers at the start of their performance swimming journey.

The Club

WDSC is largest and the top performing club in the Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire County. Arena League A finalists for the second year running and County Champions for the fourth year.

Wycombe is an exciting evolving and dynamic club, offering a wide programme using a 'one team' approach. The club is a registered charity with a diverse offering in the community from performance and competitive swimming, through to masters, participation squads and an emerging water polo session.

Since 2012 the club has more than tripled in size resulting in around 600 active swimming members. At the start of 2016 WDSC moved to the new 8x50m pool in Wycombe. The club continues to grow working closely with the local schools and community and accesses the leisure centre lessons programme of a further 1900 swimmers.

The Role

The continued growth of the club means that we are seeking to add further coaches to lead our expanding programme. This role will work primarily with the Potential 1 and Junior Performance Squads developing and leading the performance swimmers of the future. The strength of these squads is important in the future success of the club, the delivery of a high quality coaching programme is a key part of that success.

The Potential 1 squad is competing at county level and depending on ability and performance levels will either transition into our Junior Performance or Junior Competitive Squads.

The Junior Performance Squad is for swimmers competing at regional level and aspirating for national level qualification and success. Swimmers progress from this point into the other Performance Squads or Competitive Squads.

The swimmers in these squads are in the age range 9 to 14 years old.

We expect the poolside coaching commitment of this role to be around 24 hours per week. Additional time will be required for preparation, administration and competition participation as required to deliver a high quality coaching service to the swimmers.

The coach will work with the head coach, lead performance coach and head of athletic development in the delivery of the training programmes. This will be a great opportunity to develop your coaching skills as part of an experienced high performing team.

The Candidate

You should have a minimum of a level 2 teaching/coaching qualification and experience of working with swimmers in this age range.

The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate a strong ability to coach the age range and clearly show their love of coaching swimming. You will be driven and knowledgeable, with a good understanding of motivating swimmers within this age group. You should have good communication skills and be comfortable communicating with swimmers, coaches and parents.

You will need to have a good understanding of long term athlete development and actively demonstrate the willingness to learn and further develop yourself. You will be prepared to learn and embrace new coaching techniques and technologies to deliver a good learning experience for all your swimmers.

You should understand and have a sound knowledge of the essential skills and behaviours that swimmers should develop within the junior programme in order to reach their full potential. You will be keen to support those skills by the provision of quality learning and competitive opportunities.

As a key part of the wider Wycombe swimming community you will need to be a team player motivated by the success of both your own swimmers and those within the wider club.
