A unique opportunity for a swimming coach of the highest standard with a proven track record to drive the future development of the City of Cardiff Swimming Club to ensure their continued success whilst also being responsible for heading the Swim Wales National Coaching Team.

With the success of Swim Wales at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games this is a unique opportunity to provide the highest level of leadership to ensure the City of Cardiff Swimming Club and Swim Wales maximise the success in Glasgow and ensure an even better performance in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The national head coach will be based at the Cardiff International Pool to deliver the following primary objectives.

City of Cardiff Swimming Club:

  • Review and implement a progressive swimmer development programme designed to maximise the potential of all swimmers in the club.

  • Develop the City of Cardiff Swimming Club coaching team.

  • Identify and nurture talented swimmers.

  • Develop and deliver a land based fitness and nutrition programme of the highest quality.

  • Place swimmers on to both national and British teams on a continuous basis.

National Head Coach:

Deliver the elite swimming national objectives by:

  • Providing strategic direction to the national team of professional swimming coaches working in the two National Performance Centres (Cardiff and Swansea) and the Regional Performance Centres across Wales.

  • Ensuring this team and support staff retain focus and the ability and desire to deliver the national objectives.

The national head coach will:

  • Be employed by Swim Wales and report to the chief executive officer.

  • Have full accountability for the provision and development of a successful swimming programme within the City of Cardiff Swimming Club.

  • Be an integral part of the Swim Wales National coaching team.

  • Be supported by an integrated sport science team.

  • Be reporting progress against targets to the National Elite Swimming Board to include representatives of both Swim Wales and the City of Cardiff Swimming Club.

Background:

Swim Wales employs five professional coaches responsible for the Performance Centres across Wales. It has already established a High Performance Centre in Swansea thus integrating the programmes of Swansea Aquatic Club, Swansea University and the National Performance Centre.

The City of Cardiff Swimming Club, in partnership with Swim Wales, intends to establish a similar operation in the city of Cardiff.

The successful candidate will lead an innovative coaching team with the drive and enthusiasm to attract nurture and retain young people in increasing numbers. As the head of this professional team you will be instrumental in creating a unique 'swimming club' based in the city of Cardiff whilst supporting a network of performance clubs across Wales. You will face many challenges but, equally, you will also be in a position to exploit and develop new opportunities for swimming in Wales.
