Shirley Pool is looking for swimming teachers. The UK's only purpose built, two-pool teaching centre, privately owned and managed but still open to the public, Shirley Pool is dedicated to learn to swim. It provides a clear progressive pathway from baby to butterfly and beyond. Using its own teaching plan and awards, the centre has consistently produced swimmers of county, regional and national standard. With over 1,800 current customers on directly debit, the business is healthy and demand for tuition is growing.
You should only apply for this position if you are a dedicated, career swimming teacher. You don't have to be fully qualified but you will need to demonstrate huge enthusiasm for the role, high quality communication skills at water level and a genuine appetite for the hard work that is involved in teaching children to swim properly.
In a perfect world, you would have a current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, parent and baby experience as well as Level 2 equivalent qualification. But for the right candidate the company are prepare to invest in professional training.
The pool is situated in its own grounds, in a busy suburb, a mile from the city centre. Southampton is a vibrant, diverse city with excellent links to London and the South Coast with its beaches and national parks. The company-owned staff house is opposite the pool and three teachers share the 4-bedroom home, paying £275.00 including all bills.
Teachers are hourly paid, starting at £16.05. After training, a full-time teacher will earn in excess of £23,000 per annum for a 35-hour week. Depending on skill sets, the applicant can expect to teach around 20 hours a week over five and a half days, complimented by administration and reception hours.
There is potential to train in all aspects of running a busy leisure centre.
The pool has its own cafe, a converted double decker bus, staff receive a 30% discount. Cooled water is provided pool side.
The centre closes at Easter, from Good Friday – Easter Monday,; Christmas (normally 22nd/23rd Dec – 1st January; and has a two-week shutdown in August (dates to be advised at the start of the year) plus all bank holidays and teachers will need to book their holidays around these shutdowns. Staff receive 28 days' paid holiday a year.
Reporting directly to the managing director you will be responsible for assessing, teaching and progressing your own classes through all the strokes.
