Kings Camps operate at 40 venues across the UK and recruit candidates nationwide for Easter and summer positions. We are currently particularly interested in applications from Bath/Bristol/Cardiff area, Reading, Northampton, Manchester, Hull and West Yorkshire but applications from all regions are welcome!

A King’s Camps swimming teacher is responsible for the planning, preparation and delivery of all swimming sessions for groups of children aged between 4 and 17 years. All King’s Camps swimming programmes combine a mixture of structured swimming teaching and fun and games, while adhering to King’s Camps' programmes and safety standards at all times. In venues where the Splash programme is running the swimming teacher will also be responsible for delivering this programme in accordance with training and resources provided by King’s. Splash is a fast track learn to swim programme covering levels 1-4 of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming and runs for two 30min sessions prior to the start of main camp. When not on poolside, swimming teachers will get involved with other sports and activities taking place on the activity camp and work closely with the King’s Camps sports coaching team.

Swimming Teacher – Duties & Responsibilities:
To check that the appropriate life-saving equipment and emergency aids are in working order and immediately to hand
To establish and maintain high safety standards in the pool area.
To carry out swimming tests to assess the ability of each child, taking appropriate action.
To set out the pool ‘rules’ at the start of each group’s first swimming session.
To follow the swimming policy at all times.
To ensure you know which member of staff the First Aider is and their whereabouts during each session.
To plan and deliver fun, quality swimming sessions appropriate to the ability of the children, utilising King’s Camps sports and swimming coaching resources.
To take care and encourage all children in each swimming group and to integrate unhappy children into the activity.
To ensure the appropriate swimming equipment is prepared before the start of each swimming session.
To maintain interest throughout each swimming session, ensuring that every child is participating.
To combine swimming teaching and fun with a variety of activities including exercises, games and free time.
To ensure that sports teachers and play leaders assist effectively and to direct the sports teachers and play leaders during swimming sessions, ensuring that they are taking the role of a ‘Responsible Adult’ in each swimming session.
To be involved in other sports coaching sessions when possible and to participate in non-swimming activities as the camp timetable directs, working as part of the wider staff team, with the children’s enjoyment as the main focus.
To be involved in the lunch and break time supervision.
To follow the rota for lunch breaks as designed by the camp manager, to assist in lunch time activities and to ensure that the children in your group are happy and safe during break times.
To ensure the safe and correct use of King’s Camps venue facilities and equipment.
To check the equipment before each swimming session and to inform the camp manager of any damaged equipment.
