Alicia Blagg dominates women’s 3m in Plymouth

Alicia Blagg left the field behind to claim the women’s 3m Springboard title on the final day of the British Diving Championships 2018.

The City of Leeds diver came into the 3m with a point to prove, after losing out to Kat Torrance in the 1m Springboard event due to a misjudged dive. And prove the point she did as she repeated her result from 2014 to claim top spot.

The 21-year-old started the proceedings with a solid forward two and a half somersaults with a twist. She scored 63.00 and was leading after the first round.

Blagg was consistent for three out of the next four rounds, nailing almost every dive. She had a slight hiccup during her fourth dive, but had enough of a lead to hold pole position.

Her final dive, an inward two-and-a-half somersault tuck, sealed the deal. She scored 7½ and 8s from all judges, topping the podium with 317.70 overall.

Mew Jensen secures silver with impressive performance

Scarlett Mew Jensen of Dive London Aquatics Centre put in a sterling performance to take the second spot on the podium.

The 16-year-old seemed to have drawn confidence from her bronze medal in the 3m Synchro with partner Yasmin Harper. She was consistent throughout the event, and finished with a total score of 291.00.

The final place on the podium went to City of Sheffield’s Millie Hafferty. The 18-year-old was also pretty consistent in her execution, scoring a total of 282.50.

This was her third medal of the competition, having secured the silver medal with 3m synchro partner Millie Fowler, and bronze in the individual 1m.
