Applications open for GLL Sport Foundation programme

Divers are being encouraged to apply to the GLL Sport Foundation athlete support programme.

Charitable social enterprise GLL runs the programme. This year will see over 3,000 sporting athletes supported with benefits to support their sports performance.

This includes training access to over 300 venues across the UK. They will also get access to physio and injury rehab support and financial awards up to the value of £1,250.

Crystal Palace divers Eden Cheng and Louise Bradley – who won gold and bronze medals respectively at last year’s European Junior Championships in Bergen – were both part of the programme in 2017.

Supported ambassador and Paralympic gold medallist Susie Rodgers explained how the support has aided her journey.

“I was a recipient of the programme from the start of my career,” said Rodgers.

“I would recommend you all apply. It’s that support that makes a real difference and who knows? In the future you might become an Olympic or Paralympic champion.”

A decade of athlete support

This will be the 10th year of the programme, which is the UK’s largest independent athlete support programme. It has helped over 16,000 athletes since it began.

The Foundation is directly aligned to sport national governing bodies. It has two national partners, SportsAid and the Mary Peters Trust.

This makes sure that the right awards are provided to the right athletes at the right time.
