Applications open for START Diving programme 2018

All clubs and operators can now apply for funding to provide free diving taster sessions with the START Diving programme.

More than 5,000 children took part in taster sessions during last year’s START Diving programme, while some 400 went on to sign up for diving lessons.

The Swim England funded programme is open to all Swim England diving clubs and all operators who already deliver diving lessons.

How To Apply

START Diving in its third year

START Diving, which is now in its third year, is a flexible programme, allowing successful applicants to run the diving sessions in the way they feel will provide the most benefit to their local community and get as many people as possible trying the sport.

In previous years, some have opted to deliver regular taster sessions each week while others have chosen to run an intensive programme during the school holidays.

The programme also includes the use of centrally produced certificates, pin badges and marketing material such as pop up banners.

Becky Walker, Swim England’s national development officer for diving, said: “This is such an exciting programme and a great opportunity to get more children trying the sport.

“Last year, some of the clubs taking part saw 50 per cent of those attending a taster session go on to sign up for diving lessons.”

START Diving application guidance

Applications will be judged on the ability of the centre or club to best use the funding to deliver an impactful START Diving programme. These should have the potential to attract and retain high numbers of new participants to the sport.

There is no limit to the amount of funding that can be applied for. However, last year’s successful centres received between £1,000 and £2,000 each.
