England's top juniors shine at 2016 British Junior Elites

England’s junior divers were in fine form as they scooped all of the available titles at the British Elite Junior Diving Championships 2016 in Plymouth.

Plymouth’s Aidan Heslop and Crystal Palace’s Callie Eaglestone both claimed clean sweeps in the Group B and Group C age groups respectively while Noah Williams and Shanice Lobb won the Platform crowns in the oldest age group.

British Elite Junior Diving Championships 2016: Group A

Dive London’s Noah Williams was one of the stars of the Championships as he took gold in the Group A Platform event.

Competing in the Group A age group for the first year, the 15-year old held his nerve in the last two rounds to score 82.50 and 83.20 and secure the title on 551.40.

Plymouth’s 2014 senior British champion Matthew Dixon was narrowly behind Williams on 533.25, despite a dropped dive for his opening effort, while Southampton’s Max Cott took bronze on 474.55.

City of Sheffield’s Jordan Houlden claimed the Group A 1m title on 517.30 while City of Leeds’ Anthony Harding reversed the positions for the 3m event, winning gold on 544.75 ahead of Houlden’s 531.70.

Two-time European Junior medallist Shanice Lobb won the girls’ Group A Platform, scoring 433.85 to upgrade from last year’s silver and reclaim the title she won in 2014.

Plymouth’s Kayleigh Sinclair hadn’t won an individual medal at the Junior Elites since 2011, but the 17-year old jumped straight to the top of the podium in the Group A 3m Springboard, scoring 422.40.

City of Sheffield’s Millie Haffety claimed the remaining Group A crown, winning the girls’ 1m Springboard on 382.65 from teammate and synchro partner Millie Fowler on 377.85.

Haffety and Fowler had combined on the opening day of the Championships to win the 14-18 Yrs 3m Synchro title on 258.09.

British Elite Junior Diving Championships 2016: Group B

Plymouth Diving’s Aidan Heslop stole the show in the boys’ Group B events, claiming a clean sweep of the individual crowns.

While Heslop reached the podium in only one event in the Group C age group 12 months ago, there was no stopping the 13-year old in his first year in the Group B category.

He opened his Championships with 431.80 for Platform gold before scoring 415.20 to narrowly hold off Southend’s Connor Van Dal (413.60) in the 3m.

A score of 383.65 was good enough to land the spoils in the 1m on the final day with Sheffield’s Raffael Benitez next best on 368.20.

Victoria Vincent, who won the senior British title in 2014, landed a golden double in the girls’ events, claiming the 3m and Platform crowns.

The Plymouth diver, who turned 15 on Sunday, dominated the 3m Springboard event, finishing nearly 50 points clear on 397.90 with City of Leeds’ Emily Bearpark taking silver on 348.30.

The Platform wasn’t much closer with Vincent impressing to finish on 366.05 with Crystal Palace pair Florence Smith (322.70) and Amelia Connolly (309.80) joining her on the podium.

Vincent was denied the clean sweep by another Crystal Palace diver, Maria Papworth, who scored 319.90 to Vincent’s 316.60 in the 1m final.

British Elite Junior Diving Championships 2016: Group C

There was another clean sweep in the Group C age group as Crystal Palace’s Callie Eaglestone impressed at her first British Elite Junior Championships.

The 11-year old scored 290.50 for victory in the 1m, 339.70 to claim the 3m crown, and 267.60 to deny City of Sheffield’s Richelle Houlden (266.00) in the Platform.

Eaglestone also teamed up with teammate Evie Smith as the only pair in the 9-13 Yrs 3m Synchro, scoring 216.60.

The boys’ events saw Southend’s Tyler Humphreys claim the 1m and 3m double, having won 3m silver and Platform bronze at last year’s Champs.

The 13-year old, who was a medallist for the England Programmes squad at last year’s Trofeo Niccolo Campo in Rome, scored 327.45 for victory in the 1m, and 378.15 to claim the 3m crown.

Luton’s Ben Cutmore, who finished second behind Humphreys in both springboard finals, won the Platform event on 355.55 – the only diver to beat the 300 marker in prelim or final.

The boys’ 9-13 Yrs 3m Synchro title went to City of Sheffield’s Adam Charity and City of Leeds diver Joe Stocking on 219.75.
