Evie Summers leads home Crystal Palace clean sweep

Crystal Palace dominated the Girls Group C 3m in session five, and Lexie Howard took her third gold of the competition in the Girls A Platform.

Crystal Palace diving took all three podium places in the Girls C 3m, with Evie Summers, Josie Zillig and Hanna Blunt receiving gold, silver and bronze respectively.

Summers had a significant lead by the final round of dives, and was almost seven points ahead of her team mate in second. Zillig, who won gold in yesterday’s Platform event, received silver with 222.95 and Blunt followed up in third with 216.30.

Evie commented: “It feels good to get gold because I didn’t know I could do it, but it’s all down to my coach really, she had been pushing me really hard.

“It feels more special because there were three of us (Crystal Palace), and it meant more points for the overall team.

“I’ve got the 3m tomorrow, I’ve got my tricky dive to do in that, but I know I’ll do it.”

There was almost nothing to separate Florence Summers of Crystal Palace and Jessie Millham of Southend after the final round of dives in the Girls D 3m.

Millham was leading after the fourth round, but Summers put in a great final dive to take gold with 175.60. Millham was awarded silver for 175.55. City of Leeds’ Beatrice Hargreaves was the bronze medal winner with 168.45.

The Girls C 1m was the largest event of the competition so far, with 45 divers competing over six rounds.

Lexie Howard makes it a hat trick after Girls A Platform

Lexie Howard was sitting in second place at the start of the final round of dives in the Girls A Platform, but after a fantastic final dive she secured her third gold medal for Dive London, finishing with 272.50.

“It feels amazing to get a third medal, especially after having a break from diving for a couple of months and then coming back. You’re not really expecting to do as well as you did before.

“Three metre is my hardest board and last year I got a failed dive, so I’m really nervous about that, but we’ll see what happens.

I’m just going to go into the (3m) competition like I have with my other ones, put my earphones in and get psyched up.

Luton Diving Club’s Annie Thomas took the silver medal with with 269.75 and Olivia Blower, who had been leading after round six, secured a bronze for Southend Diving.

In the Boys A 1m, Harrison Green claimed a gold medal for City of Leeds, over 25 points ahead of second place. Piers Brown of Crystal Palace received silver with 274.55 and Scott Palmer of Southampton Diving took the bronze for his score of 269.80.

Green said, “I’m really happy. I’ve had a shaky few weeks but I’m happy that it went like it did. I wasn’t expecting to medal, I just came here to enjoy it and have a good time and see how I do.

“Now I’m just going to try and work on some new dives, and learn some harder dives ready for the next competition, and then try it all again afterwards.”
