English divers to compete at 2017 Mediterranean Cup

A team of 10 young English divers are competing at this weekend’s Mediterranean Cup 2017 in Bolzano, Italy.

The team will take part in Group B (14/15 Yrs) and Group C (12/13 Yrs) age group events from 3 – 6 August.

England boast a impressive recent record at the Mediterranean Cup, having won 18 medals in Bolzano 12 months ago.

Luton Diving’s Ben Cutmore took a clean sweep of 1m, 3m and Platform titles in the Group C age group last year and will step up in to Group B competition.

City of Leeds’ Callie Eaglestone and Crystal Palace diver Amelia Connolly also topped the podium at last year’s event.

And Team Manager Connie Ford admits the competition is an excellent introduction to international competition for England’s best young talent.

First international event for six of the team

“We’re taking a young team of talented divers and it will be the first international event for six of them,” said Ford.

“We’ll be competing against some top nations including Russia, Italy and Kuwait.

“The competition will provide our young divers with some valuable experience at the start of their international careers.”

The majority of the squad have come through the Swim England Diving Talent Pathway.

Connolly, Cutmore, Eaglestone and City of Sheffield’s Richelle Holden are all members of the England Team Y Squad.

Southampton trio Milo French, Leon Baker and Robbie Lee are all Z Squad members, while Dive London’s Lucy Sefton came through the Team Z Programme.
