GB men 3m medal haul at London 2016

British Masters won an impressive medal haul at London 2016 yesterday, with six medals in the Men’s 3m Springboard event.

For many of the divers, it was their second medals of the competition so far, showing some great consistency from the British contingent.

GB’s female divers also took home six medals in the 1m Springboard event, with Jennifer Cluskey claiming her second gold of the competition so far.

Men’s 3m Springboard results

Dennis Rowe of High Gate Diving claimed his second gold medal at the London 2016 European Masters Championships, once again with a significant lead in the 65-69yrs age group.

His first and last dives scored him over 50 points, the highest awarded dives in the category. He finished with 236.10.

Peter Jewell of Decorum Dive Club secured a bronze medal in the same age group, after narrowly missing out to GB team mate, Peter Woodhams in the 3m yesterday. Jewell scored 153.95 to finish third.

Jim McNally of High Gate also won his second gold of the competition, finishing just a few points clear of his Czech rival in the 60-64yrs age group. He ended the final round with 216.60 to top the podium.

Richard Dear of Waltham Forest improved on his bronze performance in the 1m to come second in the 55-59yrs age group. His score of 251.55 put him just six points shy of his Swedish counterpart in first.

Juan Gutierrez of Plymouth had a great few rounds of diving in the 45-49 years age group, coming away with a silver medal to add to his gold from the 10m Platform event yesterday.

Shiraz Shamshudin of Amersham added bronze to the GB tally in the 50-54yrs age group, his first medal of the competition.

Women’s 1m Springboard results

Cluskey won the first gold medal in the 1m, scoring 147.35 to top the podium in the 65-69yrs age group. The Southend diver scored the highest in her category for her second dive, awarded 34.20.

Carolyn Gallery of Cambridge was the other diver to take home a gold, winning the 45-49yrs age group by over 50 points to capitalise on her silver medal performance in the 3m.

Beaumont Diving’s Barbara Heathfield claimed her second silver on day two, just short of Lithuania’s Asta Gurdauskiene. Heathfield scored 163.3 in the 55-59yrs age group to add to the GB medal tally.

Katie Bell was the second diver to claim silver on the day, narrowly missing out on gold with just half a point between her and Russia’s Maria Lebedeva. The Dacorum diver did clear 20 points ahead of the bronze medal position, scoring 174.85 in the 50-54yrs.

Naomi McBane went one better in the 1m, stepping up the pressure in the 40-44yrs age group to take a silver with 211.95.

There were also two bronze medals taken in the women’s 1m, the first was Joan Aldous of Southend taking her second bronze of the competition in the 75-59yrs and the other was Nicola Walker from City of Leeds in the 35-39yrs.
