Josephine Zillig wins Group C Platform gold in Sheffield

Josephine Zillig took gold in the Girls C Platform, securing a golden hat trick for Crystal Palace, while Scott Palmer and Thomas Graham secured a one-two podium finish for Southampton Diving in Sheffield.

The Girls C Platform saw a one-two for Crystal Palace Diving, with Zillig taking gold and Evie Summers taking silver.

Zillig had a significant lead over her club mate, finishing with 227.25 to secure a third gold medal for her club on day two. Summers took silver with 214.60.

Zillig commented on her performance, “I messed up a couple of dives, so I was really happy to come out on top. I tried quite hard on my last two dives because I knew I had messed up my first dive, I just decided I had to try my hardest and see what happens.”

I’ve got the one metre tomorrow and then the three metre the day after, so I’m feeling very confident now. I didn’t really know what to expect.

Crystal Palace almost took all three spots on the podium, but Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix was denied the bronze medal by Star Diving’s Georgia Adams, who finished third with 210.65, just 1.35 points ahead.

The afternoon session kicked off with the Girls D 1m and it was a battle to the end, with barely anything separating first and second place. It was Plymouth’s Summer Radcliffe who eventually secured the gold medal, with 157.65.

Dive London Aquatics Centre’s Ruby Thorne secured the club’s fourth medal at the competition, just 1.60 points from a gold medal. She finished with 156.05 for silver. Beatrice Hargreaves took bronze for the City of Leeds, scoring 154.90.

One-two for Southampton Diving

Southampton Diving also took a one-two podium finish, with Palmer and Graham coming first and second in the Boys A 1m Springboard.

Palmer put in a great performance, walking away with the gold medal for his score of 290.50. Graham was just eight points behind for second place, securing silver with 282.85.

Palmer said, “I am very surprised to get gold. I was hoping to medal, but usually I don’t do this well. I think I got a PB, so I’m very proud of that.

“I think being relaxed gave me the edge today, I am usually stressed and I managed to calm down this time.”

“I think eight years of experience in competitions has given me some confidence.” – Scott Palmer

“I’ve got a few competitions coming up later in the year, so I just want to learn some new, more difficult dives and focus on getting a better rip.”

City of Leeds’ Harrison Green took the final place on the podium, just over a point away from second. He received bronze for his score of 281.55.

In the Boys C Platform event, City of Sheffield bagged their first gold of the competition, with Frankie Curtis claiming first place with 224.50.

Dive London Aquatics Centre’s Maxwell Spencer was just behind, taking silver with 222.00, and Ethan Bennett took Southampton Diving’s third medal of the day, bronze for his score of 221.80.
