Ross Haslam completes golden hat-trick with 3m title

Ross Haslam completed a hat-trick of gold medals at the British Diving Championships 2017 after a close competition in the Men’s 3m Springboard.

The 3m title was added to his gold medals in the Men’s 3m Synchro with his brother Jack and the Mixed 3m Synchro with Millie Fowler.

The City of Sheffield diver was very consistent in his performance. His final Front 2 ½ Somersaults Double Twists piked scored an impressive 81.60 to leave him with a total score of 438.75.

“I really can’t believe that I am the 3m Springboard champion,” said Haslam, who finished sixth in the 3m final 12 months ago.

“I didn’t think coming into the competition that I would be able to snatch a gold let alone three.

“You can’t really ask for more than three out of three golds but I think that I’m really happy with how it’s gone. I was nervous at the start of the competition. But training has gone well and I’m happy I’ve been able to replicate what I’ve done in training here.

“I always aim to be consistent so I get into my own space behind the boards and do my drills, keep breathing and stay calm. I don’t want to get too excited or too nervous on the boards.”

Dan Goodfellow narrowly misses out on silver

City of Leeds’ Dan Goodfellow was less than a point off silver at the end of the final round of dives as he claimed bronze on 428.45.

The Olympic 10m Synchro bronze medeallist was trailing in sixth after the fourth round. But he made up significant ground with his final two dives, reaching the high 70s for both.

Goodfellow finished just behind Edinburgh Diving’s James Heatly, who won silver on 429.00.

City of Leeds’ Yona Knight-Wisdom was diving as a guest representing Jamaica. He secured the second highest score, ending the final round with 433.75.
