Kyle Kothari wins second Grand Prix medal of season

Kyle Kothari landed his second Grand Prix medal of the season with 10m Platform bronze in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Dive London diver improved with each stage of the competition, scoring 411.25 in the final, after 345.30 in the prelims and 395.95 to progress from his semi final.

The 19-year old broke 80 points for two of his six dives in the final.

Kothari’s inward 3 1/2 somersaults with tuck (407C) went for 80 points in the third round of dives. He finished with 81 points for his armstand back 2 somersaults 2 1/2 twists (6245D).

The result comes less than four months after the young English diver won 10m Platfom silver on his Grand Prix debut in Bolzano, Italy.

It also means British divers have reached the men’s 10m Platform podium at all five of the six Grand Prix legs in which British Diving have competed this season.

Plymouth’s Matthew Dixon won bronze in Canada in April before Leeds’ Matty Lee topped the podium in Puerto Rico and Plymouth’s Welsh diver Aidan Helsop won bronze in Madrid a month later.

Mew Jensen and Harper land second podium finish

Scarlett Mew Jensen (Dive London) and Yasmin Harper (City of Sheffield) returned to the 3m Synchro podium for the second consecutive Grand Prix, albeit in a contest with only three entrants.

While the English pair finished third of the three, they improved on their score which won gold at the previous leg in Italy, finishing on 252.00.

Mew Jensen also improved on her scores in the individual event, progressing with a score of 279.10 from the semis before finishing sixth in the final on 257.10.

Crystal Palace’s Eden Cheng also caught the eye on her Grand Prix debut, finishing sixth in the women’s 10m.

The European Junior champion scored 297.85 and 295.10 to breeze through the prelims and semis respectively before slipping to 260.90 in the final.

But there were plenty of positives to take for the young English diver, whose scores from either prelim or semi would have won bronze in the final.
