Lois Toulson defends 10m Platform title at 2018 British Champs

Lois Toulson claimed her third British Platform title in four years with a dominant performance in Plymouth.

The City of Leeds diver finished with more than 50 points in hand on the field as she scored 336.90 to add to her victories from 2015 and 2017.

City of Sheffield’s Georgia Davenport won her first medal at a British Championships with silver on 283.50. Scotland’s Gemma McArthur, who trains at Southampton Diving Academy, claimed bronze on 272.30.

But it was English diver Toulson who underlined her class in the final, improving on her winning total of 327.90 from last year.

The 18-year old won her first World Championship medal after her performance at the 2017 British Champs, teaming up with Leeds training partner Matty Lee for silver in the Mixed 10m Synchro in Budapest.

And she put her experience to good use in Plymouth, hitting the high notes in the first and final rounds as others faltered.

Toulson finished with the best dive of the final, scoring 83.20 for her back 2 ½ somersaults, 1 ½ twists piked (5253B) to close out gold.

Davenport continues successful day for Sheffield Diving

Having seen Jack and Ross Haslam finish first and second in the men’s 3m, Davenport continued a successful day for City of Sheffield with her maiden British medal.

The 21-year old’s previous best finish had been sixth place – in the Platform final two years ago and the 3m Springboard final at the 2012 Olympic Trials.

But after progressing to the final in fourth, Davenport added more than 15 points to her prelim score to finish second.

Dive London’s Robyn Birch was unfortunate not to join Toulson and Davenport on the podium.

Having finished first in the morning prelim, Birch was keeping pace with Toulson in the final before a failed dive in the fourth round put her out of the podium picture.

To her credit, the 24-year old bounced back to score 64.00 in the last round and recover to fifth place overall.
