Lois Toulson wins Platform silver for GB's fourth medal in Kazan

Lois Toulson won Great Britain’s fourth medal of the World Junior Diving Championships with silver in the Group A Platform.

The 17-year old City of Leeds diver was just 0.30 shy of gold as she finished on 430.40 behind Germany’s Elena Wassen.

The teenager’s result sees her return to the World Junior podium for the second time in two years, having achieved the same result in the Group B age group in 2014.

Toulson’s training partner Kat Torrance had been the only other British individual medallist in the all-English squad, having won 1m gold and 3m bronze. The Brits’ fourth medal was in the Team Event on the opening day of competition in Kazan, Russia.

Olympian is standout performer in final

Toulson, who finished fifth on her Olympic debut alongside Tonia Couch in the 10m Synchro in Rio this summer, was the standout performer in the final.

She scored 75.00 for her forward 3 ½ somersaults piked (107B) and 72.00 for her ultimate dive, a back 2 ½ somersaults, 1 ½ twists piked (5253B).

But while she scored the highest total for her four dives in the final, she had too much ground to make up on Wassen, who carried over 16.55 points more than Toulson from the prelims.

Sheffield divers secure top 10 finishes

Owen Harrison also made a Platform final in Russia, finishing eighth in the Group B age group.

The City of Sheffield diver scored 421.70 after the final, with China’s Ling Yang claiming gold on 527.40.

Meanwhile, Harrison’s Sheffield teammates Millie Fowler and Millie Haffety finished fifth in the 3m Synchro, scoring 261.69.

Another Sheffield diver, Jordan Houlden, was narrowly denied a medal in the Group A 1m Springboard as he finished fourth.

While the 18-year old scored 532.20 in the final, an inspired final round dive from Australia’s Matthew Carter saw him leapfrog the Brit into third on 538.45.

Leeds’ Anthony Harding also made the 1m final, finishing 12th on 452.25.
