Matthew Dixon steps up for British 10m Platform title

Matthew Dixon brought the British Diving Championships to a close with a gold medal in the Men’s 10m Platform event.

The 18-year-old continued his good form from the Men’s 10m Synchro, in which he won silver with Noah Williams yesterday.

Performing in front of a home crowd at Plymouth Life Centre, Dixon’s victory saw him lift the senior British 10m title for the second time in his career, repeating his result from four years ago.

Dixon looked unstoppable throughout the event, diving last in each round after winning the prelim.

Only one round saw him drop below 80 points, and he showed great consistency to keep ahead of his rivals.

His second dive, an inward 3 ½ somersaults tuck, secured him 86.40 points to put him comfortably in pole position.

He held his composure through each round, and took the first spot on the podium with 494.30.

Matty Lee fights hard for silver

While City of Leeds’ defending champion Matty Lee settled for silver, he showed some incredible diving on the final day.

The 19-year-old, who secured his maiden individual title in 2017, looked as though he could go all the way again after scores in the 80s for his first two dives.

A dropped dive in the third round saw him drop to 20 points behind Dixon at the half-way stage of the competition.

He fought hard to recover ground in the second half of the final and his last dive, the forward 4 ½ somersault, scored him an impressive 99.90.

Lee ended on 485.60 overall – an improvement of more than 50 points on his winning tally of 431.40 from last year’s Championship.

Dixon’s synchro partner Noah Williams took the final spot on the podium for an English clean sweep of the medals.
