Toulson and Lee win bronze at FINA Diving World Series

Lois Toulson and Matty Lee saved their best until last to win a bronze medal at the FINA Diving World Series in China.

Competing in the Mixed 10m Synchronised Platform, the Leeds-based duo were fourth with two dives to go on the final day of the event in Beijing.

But they scored 75.84 points with their best dive of the competition – an inward 3.5 somersaults tuck – and they followed that up with a back 2.5 somersaults, 1.5 twists piked, which scored 72.96 points.

That enabled Toulson and Lee to take third place on 305.10.

They finished 44.46 points behind the winning Chinese pair of Shan Lin and Junjie Lian, who led from start to finish to take gold with 349.56 points.

North Korea’s Kim Mi Hwa and Hyon Il Myong finished on 330.30 points to take the silver medal.

In the individual events, Toulson, Lee and Tom Daley all failed to qualify for the 10m platform finals.

Lee finished fourth in his semi-final, and was seventh overall, while Daley came fifth in his semi-final, leaving him in ninth position in the final rankings.

Toulson finished sixth in her semi-final, and was 12th overall, in the women’s event.
