Ward and Woodward secure Olympic quota places

Competing at their first senior world level competition, Georgia Ward and Freddie Woodward impressed as they secured Olympic quota places at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre in Rio.

The team’s results in Rio have also secured Great Britain a full complement of Olympic quota places for the men’s and women’s 3m and 10m Synchro at Rio 2016.

Georgia Ward stars in 10m Platform

Dive London’s Ward secured Britain’s second Olympic quota place in the 10m Platform after reaching the semi-final at the 2016 FINA Diving World Cup.

Ward put in a solid performance in the prelim, finishing in sixth place with a score of 325.60 to secure her spot in the semi-final and the Olympic quota place.

Starting steadily, Ward improved throughout the prelim to score 69.00 for her Front 3 1/2 Somersaults piked.

In the semi-final, the European silver medallist scored a total of 321.00 to finish in eighth place in her first World level event.

Freddie Woodward reaches semis in 3m Springboard

Competing in the 3m Springboard, Woodward secured Great Britain’s Olympic quota place by reaching the semi-final in 18th place with a score of 393.40.

The City of Sheffield diver improved his position another four places in the semi-final. He finished in 14th place overall.

Woodward scored 76.50 for his Front 2 1/2 Someraults 2 Twists piked which was his best dive of the competition. He finished with a score of 412.40.
