Triggs collects Group B 3m title on final day

Annabel Triggs landed her first national title with Group B 3m Springboard gold on the final day of the 2015 ASA National Age Group Diving Championships.

The Crystal Palace diver only made her NAG debut in last year’s event, winning 3m bronze in the Group C age group.

But the 13-year old underlined her improvement to step up to the top of the podium in her first year of the Group B age group, scoring 271.75 for gold ahead of Albatross’ Charlotte West (266.20) and Luton’s Platform champion Grace Kouset (252.00) with Harrogate’s guest entry Isla Coyle finishing second overall on 266.20.

Triggs saved her highest tariff dive – the back 2 ½ somersaults with tuck – for the seventh and final round, and her resulting score of 54.60, her highest of the competition, saw her over the line.

“It feels really good to win gold,” said Triggs. “There was a bit more pressure in Group B because everyone is doing harder dives and everyone is older and scoring higher.”

James West completes clean sweep with 1m gold

It was a successful day for the West family as Charlotte’s younger brother James completed his clean sweep of the Boys D/E2 medals with victory in the 1m Springboard.

Dive London’s 3m silver medallist Maxwell Spencer gave West his closest battle of the three events, leading after four of five dives before finishing on 157.30.

But West pulled out his best dive of the competition in the final round to take gold, scoring 35.65 for his forward 2 somersaults piked to leapfrog into the top spot on 161.20.

Plymouth’s Platform silver medallist Euan McCabe took bronze on 156.35.
