2006 Winner
Karen Webb-Meek; Cleethorpes
The mother of three decided to seek a new challenge in something she was passionate about after splitting from her husband and losing both her parents. She has been teaching swimming for 18 years and decided it would be uplifting to teach in the sunshine. She contacted all the major tour operators and is now the managing director of Swim Kids, which taught 8.600 swimmers at 28 European sites, and is expanding to Egypt, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Dorothy Philips
Fareham
Dorothy is one of Hampshire’s most active 80 year olds with swimming, dancing, walking and gardening. Yet eight years ago she couldn’t even swim, and plucked up the courage to take swimming lessons aged 72. She now has the confidence and ability to join people in the pool, without feeling terrified.
