GOLD - Dougie Haydock, 13-years old from Little Comberton, Pershore
Dougie’s calm quick-thinking on a school trip to America averted catastrophe after a friend had fallen from a pier.
Dougie quickly got on a boat and dragged the boy so his arms were supported over the edge of the boat, then locked his arms under his friend’s armpits and pulled him on board.
Dougie’s Mum said: “We were very proud of him when we heard. Dougie immediately took charge of the situation and managed to get the boy to safety. It was a great example of dealing with an incident without making it terribly dramatic or dangerous.”
