In British Swimming you will find information about the world of high performance sport, including the disciplines of Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Disability Swimming.
The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.
The IoS delivers the ASA’s courses and is a member organisation. Whether you are a teacher, coach, employer or club you will find everything you need to know about qualifications or educating your workforce.

ASA Qualifications

This qualification is aimed at those interested in the coaching programme in a competitive environment.
Once qualified the holder of the ASA Level 2 Certificate for Coaching Swimming (QCF) is able to plan, deliver and evaluate a series of 5 consecutive sessions within the context of a macro cycle prepared by a senior/licensed coach.

Learners must be at least 17 years of age at the commencement of the learning programme.
Learners must be holders of either:
o ASA Level 1 Award in Coaching Swimming (QCF) - January 2011 onwards
o ASA UKCC Level 1 Certificate for Coaching Swimming - 2006-2010
o Level 1 Certificate for Teaching Swimming post 2002 plus ASA Level 1 Units 105-107 (QCF) or ASA UKCC Level 1 Unit 2 in Coaching Swimming
OR
Gained exemption prior to enrolment on the learning programme from the ASA
It is also recommended learners hold a valid CRB Certificate
