Be Inspired At Our National Disability Swimming Events

If you’re curious about disability swimming, there is no better way of finding out more than going to watch Britain’s finest Paralympic swimmers in action.

There are plenty of chances to watch Paralympic, world and European champions battling for glory at regional and national events throughout the year.

Check out the video above. This was the Men's MC 50m Butterfly Final from the British Gas Swimming Championships 2012. Exciting stuff!

The four key national events of the disability swimming calendar are:

  • The National Short Course Championships
  • The National Junior and Youth Championships
  • The British Gas Swimming Championships
  • British International Disability Swimming Championships.

All four events consist of multi-classification (MC) races where competitors from all classifications race in the same race.

The winner is the person who sets the fastest time compared to the world record in their classification.

It's the best relative performance that counts rather than first to the wall. In fact, it's not uncommon for the last person to finish to be the winner of the race!
