All About Swimming Lessons

Here at the ASA we know a lot about swimming and swimming lessons. So here’s a quick guide on what you can do and why.

Ask your parents or teachers about lessons. Or go to our Pool Finder, and ask your local pool about lessons.Swimming is the only sport that can save your life, and your school should be giving you access to lessons.

However, around 200,000 children leave primary school each year unable to swim,so you may not be able to.

Any lesson should follow the British Gas ASA Learn To Swim Framework, this will ensure you have fun while you learn to swim.

It also means you can collect loads of badges and certificates. Click on the images left to learn more about them.

There are seven main stages of the Pathway. They are based on developing your skills, movement in the water, and having fun.

Then stages 8-10 teach you sports skills. They are discipline-specific and help you get into competitive swimming, water polo, synchro, or diving.
