The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

Apprenticeships are the proven way to train your workforce. Apprenticeships can make your organisation more effective, productive and competitive by addressing your skills gap directly. There are real business benefits to taking on apprentice.

The apprenticeship will take place on the job where apprentices gain the practical skills your business needs with working alongside experienced and qualified staff.  Each apprentice will be allocated an assessor who will visit them in the workplace and guide them through their training. There is also some training which takes places by attending courses either internally or externally.

We deliver both Level 2 and 3 apprenticeships. These can be specialised in Teaching aquatics, Coaching aquatics or Exercise and Fitness.  Teaching Aquatics

The teaching aquatics apprenticeship is designed to give you employees who can not only work in your centres effectively but also give them the training they need to do roles like Teaching Swimming and Lifeguarding. If you were to take on a Level 2 Teaching Aquatics apprentice they would receive the following qualifications;

  1. Level 2 NVQ Coaching, Teaching and Instructing
  2. Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
  3. Level 2 ASA/UKCC Teaching Aquatics
  4. Level 2 National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
  5. Level 1 Keyskills in Communication
  6. Level 1 Keyskills in Application of Number

This apprenticeship takes between 9-12 months to complete and will be employed by you for that period of time.

Coaching Aquatics

The Coaching aquatics apprenticeship is designed to give you coaches who have a mix of both practical knowledge in the aquatics environment and excellent training. Coaching Aquatics apprenticeships are split into disciplines also, you can have an apprentices specialised in coaching Swimming, Diving, Water Polo or Synchronised Swimming. If you take on a Level 2 Coaching Aquatics Apprentice they will receive the following qualifications;

  1. Level 2 NVQ Coaching Aquatics
  2. Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
  3. Level 2 ASA/UKCC Coaching Swimming/Waterpolo/Synchronise Swimming/Diving
  4. Level 2 National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
  5. Level 1 Keyskills in Communication
  6. Level 1 Keyskills in Application of Number

This apprenticeship takes between 9-12 months to complete and will be employed by you for that period of time.

A Level 3 apprentice would provide your club/leisure centre with a coach with excellent experience and training. The apprentice will not only receive a comprehensive training plan but they will also receive training and mentoring delivered by some of the best coaches in England and the ASA England Talent Team. While on the apprenticeship the apprentice will receive the following training;

  1. Level 3 NVQ Coaching, Teaching and Instructing
  2. Level 3 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
  3. Level 3 UKCC Coaching Certificate
  4. Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing
  5. Level 2 Keyskills Application of Number
  6. Level 2 Keyskills Application of Communication
  7. Choice of one other industry related qualification
    1. Level 2 National Pool Lifeguard Certificate
    2. Level 2 Certificate in First Aid at Work / in Sport
  8. Or a choice of many other industry related qualification which will allow us to tailor the apprenticeship to your specific business needs

This apprenticeship takes between 18-24 months to complete and will be employed by you for that period of time.

Exercise and Fitness

The Exercise and Fitness apprenticeship is designed to give you the very best Exercise and Fitness instructors, Personal Trainers and gym Staff. The training while on this apprenticeship is very comprehensive and includes these qualifications;

  1. Level 2 NVQ in Instructing Exercise & Fitness
  2. Level 2 Award in Employment awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
  3. Level 2 Certificate in Fitness instructing - Gym
  4. Level 2 National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
  5. Health & Safety / First Aid Certificate
  6. Level 1 Keyskills Application of Number (If Required)
  7. Level 1 Keyskills Communication (if Required)

This apprenticeship takes between 9-12 months to complete and will be employed by you for that period of time.
