Parkwood Apprenticeships
Parkwood Leisure is the biggest employer of apprentices with the Institute of Swimming. We currently have over 60 apprentices with more always being enrolled onto the apprenticeship; you can view these apprenticeships on the vacancies page here . We offer three different apprenticeships with Parkwood at the moment; you can view details of these below.

How to apply

To be eligible for the apprenticeship you must meet the following criteria:
- Aged 16+
- Living in the UK
- Not in Full-Time Education
- Do NOT hold a degree or HND Qualification
Level 2 Teaching Aquatics with Parkwood Leisure
The Level 2 apprenticeship in Teaching Aquatics with Parkwood leisure is the most popular apprenticeship we offer. The apprenticeship lasts between 9-12 months. Click here to download a leaflet that has full details. While on the apprenticeship you will receive the following qualifications;
- Level 2 NVQ Coaching, Teaching and Instructing
- Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
- Level 2 ASA/UKCC Teaching Aquatics (To include Level 1 ASA/UKCC Teaching Aquatics if required)
- Level 2 National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
- Key Skills
o Level 1 application of Number (if required)
o Level 1 Application of Communication (if required)
There are many progression routes when you have finished this apprenticeship. Click here to download a leaflet for more details. You may have the opportunity to move onto permanent employment or a more specialised apprenticeship depending upon the site’s needs for example it could be anything from event management to personal trainer. You may also move onto an Advanced apprenticeship programme.

Level 2 Coaching Aquatics with Parkwood Leisure
The Level 2 apprenticeship in Coaching Aquatics is for those wishing to pursue a career in coaching competitive swimming. This apprenticeship is specialised for each discipline of aquatics, these are Swimming, Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Diving. The apprenticeship lasts between 9-12 months. While on the apprenticeship you will receive the following qualifications;
The natural progression from this apprenticeship would be to move onto a Level 3 apprenticeship in professional coaching, this would then lead to you being able to become a head coach at a club. You would also be qualified to coach aquatics in a club.

Level 3 Coaching Aquatics with Parkwood Leisure
The Level 3 apprenticeship in Coaching Aquatics is designed and built for those wishing to pursue a career in the leisure industry. You will be trained to the highest standard available for a teaching aquatics apprenticeship. The apprenticeship lasts for 18-24 months. While on the apprenticeship you will receive the following training;
- Level 3 NVQ Coaching, Teaching and Instructing
- Level 3 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
- Level 3 UKCC Coaching Certificate
- Key Skills
o Level 2 application of Number (if required)
o Level 2 Application of Communication (if required)
- Choice of one other industry related qualifications to meet candidates/employer needs:
o Level 2 National Pool Lifeguard Certificate
o Level 2 Certificate in First aid at work / in sport
There are a wide range of routes apprentices can take within the industry upon completion of the apprenticeship. They can secure full time employment as a head or assistant club coach, fitness instructor, strength & conditioning coach and many other roles within the leisure industry. Apprentices also have the option to develop their skills further and progress onto higher education at recommended universities for coaching.
