Teach a fitness workout in the pool
11 November 2011
Are you a swimming teacher looking for a way to expand your role and earning potential? Or perhaps you have no experience but are looking for a new exciting start to teaching on poolside.
Aquatic fitness sessions are a great way to get more people to incorporate swimming into their lives for both fitness and fun – and are a very rewarding and enjoyable career development option.
Now it’s easy for existing swimming teachers to get qualified to teach aquatic fitness sessions. Our brand new training programme will transfer your pool-side skills to teach aqua aerobics and other water fitness classes such as aqua jogging and aqua circuits.
Whether you are a swimming teacher or are looking at starting your career we have a qualification to suit
And for novices with no previous experience of teaching, don’t worry, the only pre-requisite is to be aged 18 or over. This could be the start of a brand new career – or to begin with simply a great way to supplement your earnings on a part-time basis.
"At the IoS we are passionate about career development and this provides leisure professionals or those wanting to embark on a career in sport and active leisure an opportunity to get involved in teaching a fitness workout for the pool," said Jenny Norvill, IoS Commercial Delivery Manager.
"Whether you are a swimming teacher or are looking at starting your career we have a qualification to suit. Everyone can study through an innovative blended learning approach - particularly attractive to those with busy lifestyles or who maybe just want to do something a little bit different."
Jenny added, "also, these courses share core units with our gym and exercise to music qualification, so for someone looking to progress in an exercise and fitness career and expand their role to teaching on poolside, the transition is made much easier."
The Level 2 Fitness Instructing Water Based Exercise (Aqua) qualification is now available through the Institute of Swimming through a series of e-learning, exams, task books and a 2-3 day theory and practical based course.
Once you have completed the qualification you will be eligible to enter the register of exercise professionals (REPs) as a level 2 aqua instructor - which is recommended by most employers (for some it is mandatory). You can also take part in a series of IoS and REPs registered development seminars, including Aqua Jogging and Aqua Circuits.
