Children with disabilities

Swimming lessons provide all children with vital skills to help with survival and this is no different for children with a disability or special educational needs.

Lessons also provide a lot of pleasure - swimming is a great leveller that can help children with disabilities have fun in a non-competitive environment.  In fact, research has shown that swimming is the favourite sport of many disabled children and adults alike because when in the water they feel they can be equal.

It’s also a way for the family to be together and enjoy a great, non-threatening activity where everyone can feel comfortable.  Many pools offer both integrated and disability specific swim sessions – contact your local pool to find out more.
