East Leeds relay team take second World record

East Leeds relay team added another world record to their tally at the ASA National Masters and Senior Age Group Championships in the penultimate session at Ponds Forge.

“That’s my second world record of the meet and my third overall so it’s a great feeling,” – East Leeds relay swimmer Chris Knee

The team, made up of Alistair Crawford, Richard Jagger, James Warren and Chris Knee swam 3:29.94 in the 100+ yrs 4x100m Freestyle Team relay to claim gold and a world record.

Knee commented on their performance: “It feels brilliant to get a world record, it’s my second of the meet and my third overall so it’s a really great feeling. To do it as a team, I think is even better than an individual for me.

“We’ve got a really good core of sprinters due to our sprint programme at Leeds. Paul Clemence runs that for us, so this gives us an edge over the competition I think.

“We’re an up and coming club and our membership is growing, which is giving us a really strong squad of swimmers across all strokes and distances.”

Jo Corben continues successful meet

Fareham Nomads’ Jo Corben continued a successful meet as she added two more records to her collection in the 45/49yrs age group.

After clocking a British Masters record 5:27.24 for gold in the 400m Individual Medley, Corben set a European record 1:07.27 for a second gold in the 100m Backstroke.

East Leeds swimmer Julie Hoyle also claimed a European Masters 100m Backstroke record as she clocked 1:11.89 for gold in the 50/54yrs age group while the third 100m Back record of the session was a new British 70/74yrs age group marker Elaine Blower of Barnet Copthall SC as she swam 1:32.56 for gold.

The final European record of session seven same from Trafford Metro women’s 120+yrs relay team, who swam 4:03.68 to put their stamp on the 4x100m Freestyle Relay event.

Keith Ingram of Birmingham Masters broke the British 75/79yrs age group record in the Men’s 400m IM, knocking over three seconds off his own previous record to touch in 7:21.88.

William Letch added to his other records with a first place finish in the 50m Freestyle, to take a British record in the 75/79yrs age group. The Exmouth swimmer touched in 31.72, almost three seconds ahead of second place.
