Emma Gage set her second record of the ASA National and Senior Age Group Championships 2015 with a European 100m Butterfly record in session five at Ponds Forge.
“It feels amazing! I’m really happy because it’s a big PB in the 100m Fly,” – Emma Gage.
Having won the 50m Backstroke on the opening day in Sheffield, the Trafford Metro swimmer added to her tally of titles with a time of 1:00.24 in the 25-29yrs age group.
“It feels amazing,” she said. “I am really happy. It’s a big PB again in the 100 Fly. I was going for something around the minute mark.
“My 50 Back yesterday gave me a bit of confidence yesterday, I didn’t expect that at all. I was only really doing it for the Masters Decathlon, and I didn’t know what to expect in it, so I am very happy with that.”
Gage wasn’t the only gold medallist from this year’s FINA World Masters Championships in Kazan to shine in the 100m Fly as Ivan Nechunaev of Spencer Swim Team clocked a European record in the men’s 25/29yrs age group, touching 53:46 for the gold.
There were also eight British records in the session, the first in the 200m Backstroke, with Nigel Foster of Swim Bournemouth touching in 2:49.56 in the Men’s 65-69yrs age group to finish 10 seconds ahead of second place.
The next four came in the 50m Breaststroke events. The first was claimed by Putteridge’s Lawrence Palmer, who swam 26.86 for a gold medal and record in the 18/24yrs age group.
Christopher Jones of City of Southampton narrowly clinched the 30/34yrs record, swimming 28.86 for a gold medal victory. Michael Hodgson of Guildford City, who broke the British 100m Breaststroke Masters record in session three yesterday, swam 29.99 for the 45/49yrs 50m age group.
The final 50m Breaststroke record was broken by Keith Ingram of Birmingham Metro, who lowered his own previous British marker to 41.39.
Elizabeth Bellinger of Bishop Stortford bagged a second British record for the club in the 100m Butterfly, swimming 1:05.23 for a 35-39yrs gold while David Emerson of East Leeds and William Letch of Exmouth also claimed British record times in the 100m Fly, Emerson in the 50-54yrs age group and Letch in the 75-79yrs age group.
