Hampshire secure National Inter County title

Hampshire secured the ASA National Masters & Senior Inter County Championships title after an impressive performance in the South East Region.

The South Coast county scored 1524 points in their regional competition at The Leys Pool in Oxford.

Having won the past two years, Yorkshire won the North Region event to finish second overall on 1500. Meanwhile Warwickshire – champions between 2011 and 2013 – were third nationally on 1458.

Hampshire landed 28 points for overall victories in 16 of the 68 events, including eight relays.

Redman and Bennell double up for Hampshire

Neil Redman and Martin Bennell led the way in the individual events, both taking two wins on the day.

Redman clocked 28.31 in the 18Yrs+ 50m Breaststroke then 25.95 to top the pile in the 18Yrs+ 50m Butterfly.

Bennell also starred with two breaststroke wins. The 39-year old clocked 30.52 to claim 28 points in the 25Yrs+ 50m Breaststroke, then returned to the pool with a 30.54 for victory in the 35Yrs+ age group.

There were also individual wins for Lizzie Godfrey, Jessica Davies, Martyn Price and Imogen Smith.
