Heyn takes third record in session eight

Georgina Heyn broke yet another record in the closing session of the ASA National Masters Championships 2016 at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

This one came in the Women’s 30-34yrs 100m Individual Medley. Heyn was over four seconds ahead of the rest of the field, touching in a new European record time of 1:04.07.

Jean Appleby claimed the second women’s record in the 100m IM. The Sudbury swimmer had over seven seconds on the rest of the field by the time she made it to the wall. She took a British record in the 60-64yrs age group with a 1:21.82 effort.

Two men’s British records were broken in the 800m Freestyle events. David Warren of Otter took his fourth record of the meet, swimming 1:00.74 for the British record in the 45-49yrs age group.

This was followed by Trafford Metro’s Neal Mackinnon. The Greater Manchester swimmer touched in 1:23.00 for a British record in the 75-79yrs age group.

Keir leaves competition trailing for European record

Silver City’s Rachel Kier dominated the Women’s 30-34yrs age group 800m Freestyle. She was over 32 seconds faster than Lauren Wilcox in second, touching in 9:11.69 for a new European record time.

Phillippa Rickard of East Leeds managed to touch just ahead of Sub 160’s Nicola Latty in the 45-49yrs age group. Rickard made it to the wall in British record time, clocking 9:52.31.

The final women’s record in the 800m Free went to Karen Graham, also of East Leeds. Graham set a new British record in the 50-54yrs age group, touching 10:10.39.

Over 80 records broken in three days

A total of 64 records were lowered at the Championships.

Five world records, 23 European and 56 British records were claimed in both the individual and the relay events.

Although there were plenty of incredible swims, Teddington stole the limelight in the relay events. Their club took three out of five world records.
