Hodgson and Ford win 100m Breast titles in Hungary

Mike Hodgson and Diane Ford won golds as Great Britain’s Masters swimmers scooped nine 100m Breaststroke medals on day two of the World Championships in Budapest.

After just one medal in the preceding event, the 100m Free, the British swimmers bounced back in style in the 100m Breast.

Hodgson has been in fine form this season, winning a magnificent seven individual golds in the 50-54 Yrs age group at June’s British Championships in Aberdeen.

And the Guidlford City swimmer continued to impress in Hungary, smashing the British and European record to clinch his first title of the meet.

Hodgson came home in 1:07.85 for victory, beating the European marker of 1:08.00.

The time also improves on the 1:08.19 he set to win European bronze in the 45-49 Yrs age group in London last year.

Diane Ford retains World Championship title from two years ago

Ford retained her world title from Kazan two years ago as she touched first in the 70-74 Yrs age group.

Having also won European gold in London last year, the Spencer swimmer was pushed hard in Hungary, closing it out by less than a second from Australia’s Marijke Alderson.

Ford ultimately clocked 1:42.15 with Alderson, competing in the 70-74 Yrs age bracket for the first time, second on 1:43.06.

Chris Jones and Dave Milburn were the other two male medallists in the 100m Breast, both taking bronze.

City of Cardiff’s Jones touched third fastest in the 35-39 Yrs age group, stopping the clock on 1:06.79.

Newbury swimmer Milburn was competing in the 55-59 Yrs, coming just 0.11 seconds shy of his British record as he finished in 1:13.73.

Gorman strikes British record as British women clinch medals

Another five British women reached the podium, including silvers in four age groups.

Long Eaton’s Helen Gorman led the way with a British record for silver in the 45-49 Yrs age group.

Gorman set 1:16.83 for her medal in Hungary, lowering the national marker from her own 1:17.38 effort earlier this year.

City of Cambridge swimmer Kathryn Loveys was second home in the 30-34 Yrs age group, stopping the clock on 1:15.51.

There was also a bronze for Spencer’s Amanda Heath, touching third in the 60-64 Yrs age group in 1:31.13.
