Marco Loughran breaks record at Surrey Masters

Guildford’s London 2012 Olympian Marco Loughran was one of the stars of the recent Surrey Masters Championships as he set a world record at Surrey Sports Park.

Loughran lowered the 50m Backstroke record in the 25-29 year age group, beating USA’s Darian Townsend’s old marker of 24.55 with an amazing 24.17 dash.

There was also a British record in the 45-49 year age group 100m Individual Medley from Guildford City’s Mike Hodgson who is ranked in the top 10 worldwide in this very competitive age group.

John Harrison also in action

Five-time Masters world record holder John Harrison was also in action as the only competitor in the 100-104 age group.

Harrison didn’t add to his record haul on Saturday but the entire poolside stood to cheer him as he collected his points trophy and then took time to present all the other awards.
