Teddington breaks World relay record in Session 4

Teddington Masters broke a women’s 4×100 Medley relay world record in Session 4 of the Swim England Masters National Championships 2017.

Hannah Loughlin, Georgina Heyn, Rebecca Newson and Zoe Liokalos were in a league of their own in the 120+ age group. They were almost 20 seconds ahead of the field, and demolished the old record by almost two seconds.

Teddington touched in 4:24.80, lowering the previous effort of 4:26.65. Heyn, Newson, and Liokalas were also part of the 4x50m Medley relay British record breaking team in Session 2.

There was also a British record for Otter in the 160+ age group. Hayley Davis, Fiona Marshall Staines, Gina Hobson and Jane McMenemy swam 4:40.31 to win the race. They too were far ahead of their closest rivals Bracknell, who touched in 5:15.92.

This was Otter’s second British relay record of the meet, with three of the four swimmers claiming one in the 4x100m Freestyle relay in Session 3.

Hoyle lowers own European record for 50m Backstroke gold

Julie Hoyle took the first European record in an individual race, winning the 55/59yrs 50m Backstroke by over a second and a half. The East Leeds swimmer touched in 33.37 to duck under her own old record of 33.74.

Kenilworth’s Jacqueline Grace was ranked sceond, taking silver in 35.85. Wycombe District’s Philippa Williams took bronze in a time of 36.79.

Fenner breaks 400m IM British record

Martin Fenner of Romford Town was the only male swimmer to claim an individual record in Session 4.

Fenner was dominant in the 55-59yrs age group of the 400m Individual Medley, swimming a time which left the field trailing.

He touched in 5:16.26 to claim a new British record time, almost three seconds under the previous British record.

Second place went to Jonathan Hopkins of Cardiff Masters with a time of 5:33.91. Warrington Masters swimmer Mark Jones took the final place on the podium in 5:40.67.

Bluefins lower nine-year record in 4x50m Medley relay

Basingstoke Bluefins snuck under Camphill Edwardians’ British record of 1:57.57 set in 2008 to claim victory in the Mixed 160+ Medley Relay race.

The quartet of Elizabeth Godfrey, Spencer Turner, Oliver Epinasse and Fleur Parker set a new record of 1:56:20 to take the title.

Birmingham Masters followed suit in the 240+ age group, shaving over two seconds off Trafford Metro’s previous 2:16.49. Birmingham’s Trevor Clark, Hayley Bettison, Spyros Georgallides and Judy Wilson set a collective 2:14.22 as the new time to beat.
