Some of the UK's leading new media figures judged the popular British Gas Swimfit website to be of a Gold standard last night and crowned it best not-for-profit website at the Big Chip Awards 2011.
Impressing the judges with its “...simplicity, ease-of-use and the quality of its content”, the Skylab designed website beat off a raft of competition to win over high profile judges such as New Media Age editor-in-chief Michael Nutley and Channel 4’s head of cross-platform Matt Locke.
ASA/British Swimming Web Manager Barry Wade said today that the Award was great news not just for the Swimfit and Skylab teams who have put in so much hard work, but also for swimming and swimmers across Great Britain.
He said: “To have thought leaders in the field of new media judge us to have created a simple, easy-to use quality product that engages people in swimming reinforces the work everyone puts into the Swimfit project.
“We pride ourselves in producing top quality content for our visitors, from articles to videos. It is produced by experts at the ASA and British Swimming and displayed in a simple to access format for everyone to benefit from.
“As well as the only sport that will save your life, swimming is also a fantastic form of exercise, whatever your fitness goals. This award shows the British Gas Swimfit website is helping people harness its power to get the UK fitter and healthier.”
Skylab Managing Director Nigel Collier said: “Skylab is delighted to have won the 2011 Big Chip Award Best Not-For-Profit project for British Gas Swimfit. It underlines the importance of our strong partnership with the team at British Swimming.
“Over the coming year we hope our other projects, such as the Big Splash, continue to help get the UK fitter, healthier and more active ahead of the 2012 Olympics.”
