From its humble beginnings just three years ago, the British Gas Great North Swim – has more than 10,000 registered swimmers for this year’s event – a first for an open water swimming event in Britain.
You may have read about it or seen athletes swimming open water in triathlons or at the Olympic Games - so maybe it's time you got involved?
There’s no age limit to open water swimming – as long as you’re a competent swimmer, the transition from pool to open water is fairly simple.
