Duncan Goodhew helps Water Polo Club complete Channel swim
Olympic swimming champion Duncan Goodhew cheered on a water polo team to successfully swim the length of the English Channel in order to raise much-needed funds for their club.
Junior members of Morley Water Polo Club completed 1,350 lengths in total at their local Big Splash pool at Morley Leisure Centre, near Leeds.
The youngest swimmer to take part was three-year-old Eli Wass who enjoyed taking part in the fund raising event, along with his two older brothers. His mum, British Gas employee Helen Wass, is delighted at the team’s achievement: “It was a great day - we have raised more than £2,000 and are very proud of our younger members.”
She added, “Duncan was fantastic, he took the time to talk to every child and cheer them on. He is probably the most fantastic ambassador for grass roots sport I have ever met”.
