Ellie Simmonds named face of Active Kids scheme
Double Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds has been named ambassador of a new scheme aimed to encourage children to be more active.
We want to raise the profile of Paralympic athletes and Ellie's involvement will certainly help us do this.
With two years two go until the start of the London Paralympics, Simmonds will become the face of Sainsbury’s Active Kids scheme for the next three years.
The 15-year old, who scooped six medals including four golds, at last week’s IPC World Championships in Eindhoven, will appear in advertising and attend Active Kids events nationwide.
Ellie said: “I was really pleased when Sainsbury’s asked me to be the face of the Active Kids scheme. It’s a fantastic scheme that makes it easier for thousands of children across the country, to enjoy sport, regardless of abilities or fitness levels.
“Hopefully, by working with Active Kids, I’ll be able to help get more kids involved in activity and sport.”
Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King admits he hopes the partnership will also help raise the profile of disability sport in the country.
“With two years to go until the Games, Ellie’s involvement will help us continue to encourage children of all ages and abilities to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle,” said King.
“We want to raise the profile of Paralympic athletes to make this the best Paralympic Games yet, and Ellie’s involvement will certainly help us do this.”
