School Swimming Charter Anniversary

Last month we celebrated the School Swimming Charter Anniversary, at the same time School Swimming celebrated 125 years on the national curriculum.

We are delighted to announce that over 500 primary schools in England have joined with us to ‘Take School Swimming Seriously’ over the past 12 months.

If you are signed up, we would like to thank you for being one of those schools. We hope that you have been using the resources and support to improve your school swimming delivery.

We would also like to encourage more schools to help us reduce the number of children leaving school unable to swim and let us support you in delivering school swimming lessons of the highest quality. A recent survey of current Charter schools showed good use of the materials so far:

“We have found the School Swimming Charter Resources to be extremely useful. The resources have provided good incentives for our children and have brought about additional focus and helpful structure in our approach to swimming.” – Little London Community Primary School, Leeds

“The passport and certificates/stickers have been a fantastic incentive for pupils and a great way to feedback to parents how their children are doing at swimming. The resources and cards have helped non specialists plan and deliver swimming lessons.” – Phillimore Primary School, Sheffield

“Extremely useful tool to encourage and reward children with the passports, certificates, stickers and badges.  They have been really well received by the children and parents. it has brought swimming into the forefront of our summer PE lessons.” – Borough Green Primary School, Kent

“Excellent resources, clear to follow and give the children clear success criteria to ensure progression in the pool.” – West Rainton Primary School, Durham

“Great for our weaker and non-swimmers. A super gentle approach which enables them all to achieve.” – Constantine School, Falmouth

“Incredibly useful. After the local council being against me introducing it, a year later they are recommending all schools sign up to it!” – Swim School, West Lancashire

“The teaching materials are great for use on pool side and are welcomed by our teaching assistants. The children really appreciate the certificates and badges.” – Potterhanworth C of E Primary School, Lincoln

As well as all the certificates, badges, guidance cards, activity cards and booklets you will receive as part of the School Swimming Charter, you have access to over 50 different electronic documents.

Whether you need cross-curricular content ideas for the classroom, sample lesson plans or ready-to-use templates for updating parents, they’re all ready to download as digital resources once your school has signed up.

Please contact us if you have any questions, challenges, support or delivery issues or if you wish to provide any feedback about the Charter so that we can continually develop it to ensure it is meeting your needs. And don’t forget, if you haven’t nominated your School Swimming Champion yet, just let us know by emailing us at schoolcharter@swimming.org.
