Ben Proud lands double gold at Euro Meet in Luxembourg

Ben Proud won the 50m Freestyle and Butterfly double on day two of the Luxembourg Euro Meet 2018.

The Plymouth Leander swimmer was a class apart in the sprint events as he stormed to victory with meet records in both events.

Proud kicked off his double with victory in the 50m Fly, the event in which he is reigning world champion. He clocked 23.03 to take the touch ahead of Ukraine’s European champion Andrii Govorov.

The English swimmer returned to the pool at the end of the session to take the 50m Free title in 21.89.

Adam Peaty sets meet record in 50m Breast

Adam Peaty was also among the English medallists from the first two days in Luxembourg.

The Olympic 100m Breaststroke champion won the 50m Breast title, setting a meet record 26.94 for gold.

Loughborough teammate Imogen Clark reached the podium in the women’s 50m Breast, claiming bronze on 31.51 after a heat swim of 21.32.

James Guy lands 200m Freestyle title

Double Olympic relay medallist James Guy was the only other English winner from the first two days, taking the 200m Freestyle title.

Guy, who won the World title in 2015, had 0.9 seconds on the field as he took the touch in 1:47.97.

The Millfield swimmer returned to the pool later in the session for bronze in the 200m Butterfly final, touching in 1:59.52.

There were silver medals for Chris Walker-Hebborn (55.23) and Aimee WIllmott (4:41.69) in the 100m Back and 400m Individual Medley respectively.

Loughborough University’s Jocelyn Ulyett reached the podium in the 200m Breaststroke, taking bronze in 2:26.57.
