Dailley and Retson destroy British records on day four

Sam Dailley and Ryan Retson smashed two 13 Yrs British Age Group records on the penultimate night of the 2014 British Gas ASA National Age Group Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

Plymouth Leander swimmer Dailley used his size 12 feet to propel him to 100m Butterfly gold in 58.08.

“It feels great,” said Dailley. “I only just missed the British Age Group record in the heats so I was really keen to do it in the final.

“It was a really close final but I could see where I was in the field. I came here wanting to win the 100 Fly but I’ve only recently got under the minute for it so to win in a 58.0 is a bit of a surprise and a massive PB for me.”

F.I.R.S.T swimmer Retson, who ducked under the two minute mark for the first time in the heats, set a new 200m Freestyle marker of 1:57.63.

“I was chuffed with that” said Retson, “It was a really good swim and obviously I’m really happy to get the British and Scottish record.

“I don’t know where the 1:57 came from really – I just tried to go out there and win the race.

“After the first 50 I thought I had a bit of a lead so I just tried to push hard to stay ahead and I’m really pleased with how I finished. I would like a PB again tomorrow in the 400 Free so we’ll see what happens.”

Hamilton swimmers hit top form

Hamilton UAE’s male swimmers hit top form on day four with Sean McNicholl helping himself to double gold in the 11/12 Yrs Age Group and Jakub Karl doing the same in the 14 Yrs Age Group, while Cameron Matthews added a fifth for the club in the 13 Yrs 100m Breast.

Among the girls’ winners was City of Leeds birthday girl Layla Black, who celebrated turning 14 by winning the 100m Breaststroke title while Stockport Metro won the 4x200m Freestyle Relay title to close the session.
