Devon land Division 2 title in Sheffield

Devon gained promotion to the top flight with victory in Division 2 of the 2014 ASA National County Team Championships at Ponds Forge.

The south coast county took the top spot on 484 points. Worcestershire finished second on 446 while Suffolk (435) and Dorset (430) sealed the other two promotion spots.

Andrea Todorovic kickstarted Devon’s promotion push in the third race of the day. She won the 12/13 Yrs 100m Breaststroke in 1:14.29.

Todorovic’s Plymouth Leander teammate Tegan Drew was hot favourite for the 12/13 Yrs 100m Backstroke, having won the National Age Group title this summer.

And she duly delivered, taking the touch by more than a second from Shropshire’s Ellinor Southward (1:05.34) with a 1:04.08 swim.

Relay victories help Devon over the line

But while they didn’t win any other individual golds on the day, Devon’s strength in depth shone through as their swimmers kept popping up in the top five.

Two relay victories helped them over the line. The Boys 12/13 Yrs 4x50m Medley quartet of Oscar Brain, Oliver Taverner, Tom Brew and Matthew Ramsey took the touch in 1:59.49.

The Boys 14/15 Yrs 4x50m Medley team of Finn Linton, James Wamsley, Thomas Downs and Taku Chaza also won their race in 1:52.86.
