Elliot Clogg wins double gold on opening night of Ontario International

Elliot Clogg bagged double gold as four English swimmers topped the podium on the opening night of the Ontario Junior International 2016 in Toronto.

Clogg struck gold over 200m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke while Imogen Clark and David Murphy won the 100m Breast titles and Joe Litchfield won the 400m Individual Medley.

City of Sheffield swimmer Clogg was on lifetime best form as he swept to the 200m Freestyle crown.

The 16-year old sliced nearly two seconds off his personal best as he took the touch in 1:46.77 off an opening 100m split of 51.75.

Clogg was just 0.06 seconds shy of his PB as he returned to the top of the podium over 50m Backstroke later in the session.

He touched in 25.23 with British teammate Brodie Williams joining him on the podium with silver on 25.27.

Clark and Murphy dominate breaststroke finals

Clark and Murphy’s victories in the 100m Breast finals were two of the most comprehensive of the night.

Derventio swimmer Clark clocked an English record 1:05.12 to take the touch by more than two seconds in the girls’ event.

City of Oxford’s Murphy broke 59 seconds for the first time as he won the boys’ final in 58.98 with nearest rival Joshua Young home in 1:00.34.

Joe Litchfield picks up 400m IM gold

Joe Litchfield became the fourth different English gold medallist in just the sixth event of the session as he won the 400m IM final.

The City of Sheffield swimmer held off the challenge of Josh Zakala (4:12.42) to take the touch in 4:11.75.

There were also British junior records for 15-year olds Freya Anderson and Emily Large as they won silver and bronze respectively.
