Joe Litchfield grabs double gold at Ontario Junior International Meet

Joe Litchfield brought his 2016 season to a close with his third and fourth golds of the Ontario Junior International Meet 2016.

The 18-year old City of Sheffield swimmer opened his night with victory in the 200m Individual Medley. He returned to the pool less than 15 minutes later to repeat the result over 100m Freestyle.

Litchfield has enjoyed a coming-of-age season in 2016, winning European Junior 200m IM gold on his 18th birthday in July.

And then teenager has capped his year off in spectacular style at the U18 meet in Toronto.

He won the 400m IM crown on the opening day before claiming a second title in the 200m Butterfly.

Close battles in both finals

Litchfield was pushed close in the 200m IM on the final day, with Canada’s Josh Zakala turning first at the half-way stage.

But the English swimmer took hold of the lead on the breaststroke leg before powering home in 1:59.75 with Zakala claiming silver on 2:00.37.

The teenager was made to dig deep again in the 100m Free. He lowered his PB to 48.92 for gold ahead of fastest qualifier Mehdi Ayoubi (49.24).

Williams and Clogg claim third English 1-2

Elliot Clogg and Brodie Williams claimed their third one-two of the weekend in the 200m Backstroke.

However, unlike in the 50m and 100m Back, Williams touched first to claim gold with Clogg following him home for silver.

Williams soared to a PB 1:55.19 to take the touch while Clogg set 1:58.06 for silver.

There were also medals for Imogen Clark and Freya Anderson on a successful final day for the English swimmers in Canada.
