Daniel Morley made it a golden hat-trick by winning the 15yrs 200m Individual Medley title in the finals session of day three at the ASA National Summer Championships 2016.

Men’s 200m IM finals

In the 15yrs age group, Morley claimed his golden hat-trick after beating his nearest rival by well over a second. The Durham City swimmer touched in a new personal best time of 2:12.40 for his third title of the championships.

Connor Joyce doubled down to claim his second title of the championships, touching in a three second personal best to take gold. The Cockermouth swimmer clocked 2:12.91 to top the podium in the 16yrs age group.

“The swim felt really good,” said Morley. “I’m a bit fatigued from the British Summer Champs last week, so I wasn’t really expecting to win but I gave it everything and it all worked out.

“I really wasn’t expecting the PB. This is my last event of the season so I just wanted to give it everything and see what I could do.

“I’m really happy with the last two weeks. Pretty much all of my swims have been a PB so I’m really happy with those. I’ll definitely be watching the Olympics. I’m really excited for all of the swimming.”

Women’s 400m Freestyle finals

Imogen Moroney of Western-super-Mare dominated the 16yrs 400m Freestyle event, winning by almost two and a half seconds. She touched in an impressive 4:32.20 to secure her first title of the competition.

Moroney commented: “The swim was good. I wasn’t expecting to get a four second PB this morning, but I had a lot of competition next to me so that helped. I was really pleased to get another PB in the final.

“I’ve been doing a lot of training. I’m a triathlete so my fitness is quite high and I felt nice and fit for it. I’m looking forward to the 200m Backstroke on Friday.” – Imogen Moroney

In the 17yrs+ event, Phyllida Britton of Wandsworth swam a personal best time which shaved almost three seconds from her previous. She touched in 4:26.70 to beat the fastest qualifier in the age group Abigail Burr by a fingertip.

Women’s 200m IM finals

City of Birmingham’s Erin Davies finally managed to find the elusive gold after a great performance in the 200m IM. Davies has already taken a bronze and a silver in the competition, and she looked very strong in the final 50m Freestyle leg.

She finished half a body length ahead of second place, touching 2:25.03, cutting her personal best by over two seconds.

Bromley’s Imogen Meers was a class above the rest of the competition in the 14yrs age group. She too cut her personal best by well over two seconds and claimed her first title of the competition. She touched the wall in 2:24.62 for gold.
